5 Steps to Make Yourself Do Anything, Even If You Don’t Want To



I didn’t want to go to the gym today.

I just didn’t feel like it. 

The old me would have been mad at myself for not wanting to go.

The old me would have told myself I was lazy.

The old me would have told myself this is why I am fat.

The old me would have said other mean things to me.

But today I CHOSE to take a different approach.

I chose to listen to my thoughts. 

To only observe them, acknowledge them.

I didn’t judge them.  I didn’t beat myself up for thinking them.  

Then I asked myself, WHY?  Why didn’t I want to go to the gym?  

I told myself it was because I didn’t sleep well, I had popcorn for breakfast, and I had a stuffy nose. 

Again, I just looked at my thoughts.  Looked at the words without emotion.

I chose to take my thoughts and turn them around.  I told myself going to the gym makes me feel better, going to the gym makes me stronger, going to the gym gives me the body I desire. 

Then I thought these new thoughts.  I told them to myself. 

I decided I wanted to go to the gym.

I went to the gym because it would give me the result I knew I wanted.

I didn’t MAKE myself go to the gym.  I CHOSE to go to the gym. And I was NICE to myself as I sorted through my thoughts.  

I didn’t beat myself up for the thoughts I was having. I felt love and content as I got ready for the morning.  NOT anxious or upset with myself. 

I left the gym feeling proud and accomplished.

I left the gym trusting myself a little more. (I love when I can trust myself.)

Apply this thought work to any situation in your life.

Steps to do this:

  1. Eavesdrop on your thoughts.  Hear them, look at them. They are not scary, they are just words.  Don’t let your inner bully judge them. 

  2. Ask yourself “WHY?”  Why are you doing or not doing something?  What are your excuses?   

  3. Think the thoughts that get you to the results you want.  What are they?  Tell them to yourself. 

  4. Take action.  Do what produces what you really desire in life. 

  5. Congratulate yourself.  You just strengthened your trust in yourself. You just got closer to what you really desire!
